By grace of God, Omid was released last week.

Omid was sentenced to pay atonement of 360 million Rials, for attending in a quarrel and beating with a knife. Omid, the eldest son of the family continued his studies to the third grade of high schoolhis father was a building painter; however, due to severe addiction he lost his work. At this age, as his mother asked him, Omid left studying to fill the gap of his father’ presence; the father whose body is alive but his soul has been gone for many years, so Omid had to bring home the bacon; A father, who according to Sharmin’s talks, his hands, belong to a hardworking Man.

I remember how the mother still feels guilty for her request of Omid’s abounding his school. We should thank God that they have a good mother taking care of them. When you enter their dark and cold home, only the light of kids’ face has warmed there. Kazem, Javad, Arezoo; however, the absence of Hamid-Reza at home and his too much solitude have worried us a little. Kazem is a wrestler and has got some medals. Arezoo is a studious girl and wishes to be a lawyer in the future.

By the assistance and intervene of Mr. Ramadani, the director of ‘congregation hall of Muharram’ (Hussainia) of the area where Omid lives, the claimant satisfied for atonement of 150 million Rials; 100 million of which was paid by the Society.

One of the conditions for claimant’s satisfaction was finding a job for his beaten son. Soon we have plan to hold a ceremony and a ‘praying ceremony’, accompany with some members of the congregation hall (Hussainia), in order to acknowledge the claimant’s forgiveness.

Ali Ghelich-Khani, is responsible for following Omid’s family condition. The main aim is supporting the children, finding a suitable work for Omid and helping his father to leave the addiction.

One day by the effort of Akbar Rajabi, we went to Omid’s home with the hope of making his father go to the camp and leave his addiction. Unfortunately, despite of exuberant existence of Akbar, we didn’t succeed. And now, with his recommendation, we’ve decided to take the children to the Nar-anon Society (established for the families who have felt the desperation and misery of having an addict in the family).

We wish the most beautiful days for this family.

Identifying the aid seeking prisoners at Kanoon PDF Print E-mail
Written by بابک صحـافیان
Sunday, 13 December 2009 10:18

Identification of the prisoners in Kanoon is now finished, during a 5 day attendance at Kanoon we finally could manage to read the file of about 50 aid seekers who were introduced by the Kanoon and interview them.
The number of crime in them is as follows:
-19 cases of theft
-11 hitting
-10 accidents
-7 murders
-3 drug carriage
-3 cases of smuggling
8 of the above cases were released in the same time from Kanoon
The plan we're going to have to continue is that the prisoners are given priority according to their crime and to what extent they deserve the freedom and their families are identified the identified aid seekers can be classified into two categories.
A) Those who have the qualifications for being freed like accidents, or fighting led to injury or murder in which one has committed the crime unaware of the consequences of his abnormal behavior and without an evil will or plan or thefts caused without choice and in bad living situations.
B) Those who have committed intentional or planned crimes and must suffer the imposed fine such as theft, smuggle, drug trafficking…
Ones who apply to the first group are chosen depending on the volunteers' participation, and the population's abilities and their priority for freedom and the after release support.
As for those applying to the second category, the population has no special plan for freedom, but they need support after freedom and baring the convicted fine, so not to turn back to the crime and prison.
We have to point that the rate of the release and support for them is dependent on the volunteers' participation and the population member's cooperation.
